Brownies is all about teamwork
Behind our Brownies is a team of dedicated volunteers that attend every week to make Upperthong Brownies the success that we are
Leader in charge - 'T'
I’ve lived in Upperthong for around 20 years and before that I lived in New Mill
I have an 15 year old daughter that is about to start her last year at Holmfirth High school and it’s her fault that I’m now running Upperthong Brownies
My daughter joined Upperthong Brownies at the beginning of 2008 and in the following July we received a letter saying that the current leader was going to retire and unless another volunteer could be found the pack would close
I took over Upperthong Brownies in September 2009 and continued to run the pack even though my own daughter has now moved on to Guides

A couple of years ago the Brownies at Upperthong had a vote to decide whether they wanted to continue with the use of Owl names for the leaders or whether they wanted to use our real names. The result was an almost majority vote to stop calling us Owls and move to using our real names
Our current team of helpers is made up of 2 qualified leaders, one unit helper and 2 young leaders, however, we are always keen for more adult helpers to join us
If you would like to come along and help at Brownies previous experience is not necessary you just need to like having fun and sometimes getting messy! If you would like to volunteer with us please contact us

Our team
We've been fortunate enough to have Chloe join us last year. We are the first unit that Chloe has helped out at, however, she is about to start her leadership qualiafication
Chloe went to Brownies when she was younger and is enjoying helping plan our weekly meetings
As well as helping out at Brownies Chloe volunteers with others and makes amazing celebration cakes
Assistant Leader - Chloe

Unit helper - Carol
Carol lives in Upperthong and has been helping out at brownies for more than 20 years
She has seen many of our brownies grow up with some of them even coming back to help as young leaders
Carol is retired but enjoys looking after her grandchildren a few days a week
Belle is volunteering with us as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Belle lives in Upperthong and goes to Holmfirth High School, she has lots of hobbies including horse riding, flute, rugby and dancing.
Young Leader - Belle
Young leader - Evie
Evie first joined us as part of a young lions volunteering programme and fortunately for us she has chosen to continue to help out at our Brownies and complete her official young leader qualification
Evie is also one of our old brownies, attends Holmfirth High School and lives in Upperthong
