Joining Brownies
All girls aged between 7 and 10 can join brownies, and contrary to popular belief they don't have to have been to Rainbows first
Upperthong Brownies are popular and we currently have a waiting list for girls who want to join us, however, that doesn't mean that there won’t be room for new Brownies as a lot of the girls on our waiting list have had their name put down early to ensure they get a place when they're old enough
To add your daughter to our waiting list please use the register button to the side and once your daughter gets near the top of the waiting list we will contact you and let you know when she can start. Girls usually join us the first week back after the school holidays after their 7th birthday
Coming to Brownies for the first time
When girls first join Brownies we ask that they don’t come in uniform as we like to save the uniform for enrolment to make it extra special. Therefore, girls should come in their own clothing until they’re enrolled, but please make sure that it’s suitable for running around in and please also make sure that sensible footwear is also worn
Sixes
We still have sixes in Brownies which funnily enough each containing 6 girls. At Upperthong we have broken with tradition of having sixes named after the likes of Pixies and Elves and have chosen woodland creatures, we have 3 Sixes which are:
Squirrels
Rabbits
Hedgehogs
Each Six has a leader, called a Sixer and a second in charge called a Second, these are usually the 2 oldest girls within each Six. By choosing Sixers and Seconds on an age basis it ensures that every girl gets a chance to be both before she leaves
When girls first join us they are placed in a Six where there is a space, unfortunately this may mean that we can’t always put girls with their best friends, but one of the best parts about Brownies is making new friends and it doesn’t take long for girls to settle into their new Six
